accords approval for Postgraduate Diploma in Poultry Sciences
RAWALPINDI -The Government of the
Punjab,Livestock & Dairy Development has accorded approval for
the initiation of Postgraduate Diploma in Poultry Sciences (PGD-PS)
at Poultry Research institute, Rawalpindi in collaboration
with University of Arid Agriculture.
According to a press release issued here, it was stated
that if necessary formalities are cleared by the University
academic authorities, PGD-PS would start in October this year.
In this Diploma course professionals and Science Graduates
would be enrolled and the duration of the course would be one
year which aims at providing training to youth to undertake
employment in public and private poultry enterprises, said Dr.
Bhatti.

to start Postgraduate Diploma in Poultry Science
RAWALPINDI, Punjab Livestock and
Dairy Development has accorded approval for the initiation of
Postgraduate Diploma in Poultry Sciences (PGD-PS) at Poultry
Research Institute.
The course would be conducted in collaboration with University
of Arid Agriculture and is poised to start in October, said
Director PRI, Bashir Mahmood Bhatti.In this one-year Diploma
course, professionals and Science Graduates would be imparted
training to enable them to get appropriate jobs in public and
private sector, said Dr. Bhatti.

"Mega-Model" of University of
Agriculture, Faisalabad
FAISALABAD-A student of M.Sc.
(Honors) has prepared a "Mega Model" of the University
of Agriculture (UAF). Inaugurating this giant model of the
alma mater, Vice chancellor Professor Dr. Riaz Hussain Qureshi
has appreciated the creative faculties of the student. Rasheed
Idress, a student of the Department of Plant Breeding
and Genetics has prepared this model, fully depicting the
grandeur building and administrative block of the university.

Two scholars awarded Ph.D by UAF
FAISALABAD-The University of
Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) has issued Ph.D degrees to two
more scholars on the successful completion of their
thesis.
The new doctorate degree holders are Muhammad Arshad, son of
Muhammad Bashir of the Department of Veterinary Microbiology,
and Tahir Hafeez Khan son of Muhammad Hafeez Khan of the
Department of Agri Entomology.
Research thesis written by these scholars were sent to foreign
experts for evaluation, on whose recommendation the varsity
VC, Prof Dr Riaz Hussain Qureshi has directed the Controller
Examination UAF to issue the degrees. The total number of Ph.D
degrees awarded by the UAF has now risen to 296.
Membership of Ph.D. club
of UAF swells to 294
FAISALABAD-The membership of PhDs club of the University of
Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) has swollen to 294 with the award
of four new degrees. These degrees have been awarded to
Muhammad Afzal son of Anayat Ullah, Department of Veterinary
Microbiology, Din Muhammad Zahid son of Mian Muhammad
Buksh Department of Forestry, Intisar-ul-Haq Department of
Botany and Mansoor-ul-Hasan Department of Agri entomology.

elected President teacher assocation
FAISALABAD-Professor Dr. Ehsan-ul-Haq Chairman Department of
Poultry Husbandry has been elected President, Teachers
Association, University of Agriculture Faisalabad for the year
2002. The other elected office bearers are Dr. Niaz Ahmed Ria
Vice President, Dr. Tanveer Ali, General Secretary, Abdul
Khaliq, Joint Secretary and Dr. M. Maqsood treasurer.
Vice chancellor, Professor Dr. Riaz Hussain Qureshi
congratulated the newly elected office bearers of the Teachers
Association.
CABB to train
graduates in biological sciences
FAISALABAD-The Center of
Agricultural Biochemistry and Biotechnology (CABB) is being
developed at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad to train
university graduates with latest techniques in biological
sciences.
This was stated by Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed Khan Professor
Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics. He was addressing
the second session of the third day of the
National Training Course on "Integration of Biotechnological
and Conventional Techniques for Crop Improvement", in old
senate hall here on January 9, 2002.
He said the university is fully aware of the importance of new
and fast emerging science of Biotechnology. In this connection
the CABB is being developed which will help young scientists
to apply new techniques for the improvement of plants and
animals.
He said the center is almost complete as far as the building
is concerned and its formal inauguration is expected in near
future. He said that a working group consisting of 10 faculty
members trained in various areas of Biotechnology has been
constituted with the sub groups dealing in three different
fields.
He said one of these is dealing with plant sciences and is
working on various agricultural crops and horticultural
plants. The second is for animal sciences while the third will
deal in Biochemistry, he added.Dr. Iftikhar said all these
scientists are working in the laboratories of their
departments including tissue culture cell of the
department of horticulture.
"This temporary arrangement was mainly due to the fact that
the building of CABB was under completion", he told and hoped
that these facilities will be shifted to the new building very
soon. He further said that National Institute for
Biotechnology and
Genetic Engineering (NIBGE) and National Institute for
Agriculture and Biology (NIAB) are also extending necessary
help and cooperation not only for the establishment of CABB
but also in improving its research facilities.
He also proudly announced that CABB has so far produced 20
M.Sc and 4 Ph.D. scholar with these types of working
conditions and arrangements.Dr. Tahir Jamil presented his
paper on "Chemistry of Genetics" while the topic of paper
presented by Dr. Yousaf Zafar of NIBGE was "Genetic
Engineering and its role in crops improvement".Dr. Tanveer
Ahmed Malik and Dr. Sultan Bahadar also addressed
various technical sessions of the workshop, which will
continue up to January 12.
