Govt considers usage of desalination technology

KARACHI-Sindh Governor, Mohammdmian Soomro, has said that the government is looking into the possibility of employing desalination technology in the agriculture sector.Delivering presidential address at the Convocation 2001 of Karachi University at the campus on Saturday, he said that in view of the water shortage there exists a need for the desalination technology.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University, Prof. Dr. Zafar Saeed Saifi had pointed out that a professor of the University has conducted successful experiments of making barren land cultivable through saline water by using the desalination technique.

The Governor also urged the Karachi University management to focus on endowment funds to help meet its financial needs. He suggested that there should be an active contact with the alumni for the establishment of the endowment funds. Mr. Soomro also pointed towards the need of the community participation. He also lauded the donations extended to Karachi University by Froze Ahmed Foundation and Nadra Panjwani.

The Governor also pointed towards the active participation of females in the Convocation 2001 of Karachi University and said a good number of females have received degrees and gold medals.
