Silk Route trade fair in full
swing
GILGIT (APP)- The second Silk Route International Trade Fair
and Gems-Expo 2001 organised by Northern Areas Chamber of
Commerce and Industry (NACCI) here is in full swing on for the
second day, Saturday.
The Festival was opened here by the Minister Kashmir, Northern
Areas Affairs Abbas Sarfaraz Khan on Friday morning.Shahbaz
Khan, President NACCI while talking to APP said that present
government is giving special emphasis to exploit the potential
of far flung and remote areas of Pakistan.
He said NAs and Chitral are rich in natural resources such as
precious stones like Ruby, Emerald, Tourmaline, Quartz, Topas,
and different types of minerals e.g. Gold, Iron, Gypsum,
Marble, Granite. The area have different kinds of fruits,
including plum, Apricot, Peach, Apple, Lichee, Grapes,
Walnuts, Almonds and Pear which have great potential of export
to foreign countries and handicrafts made by artisan of these
areas are known for its unique embroidery, which has great
attraction for international tourists and have great demand in
foreign countries.
Shahbaz Khan said Silk Route International Trade Fair provide
a golden chance to the manufacturers and producers of the
region to introduce their valuable products.
The President thanking the Chief Executive NAs Abbas Sarfaraz
for attending opening ceremony as the Chief guest and
encouraged NACCI and stall holders.
He said previously the Federal Government had donated Rs. one
million for holding of Trade Fair and Gems-Expo 2000 but now
the NACCI arranged the programme on the self-help basis in
collaboration with the NAs Provincial Coop Bank, District
Council and AKRSP.
Elaborating details of Trade Fair and Gems-Expo 2001 he said
trade fair will continue up till Sept 30, Gems Expo - Sept 21
and a seminar on "The mineral potential of NAs" will be held
on Sept 19. He said cultural show including musical programmes
were held while cultural show in Karimabad Hunza will held on
Sept 26 to 28. He said sport events in Gilgit including Horse
Polo, Neeza Bazi Sept 20 to 28, Tug of war, Pindok, Ranthas
(local games) will be held on Sept 16 to 29, Volley ball on
Sept 10 to 20, Basar on Sept 12 to 24, Martial Arts, Football
and Hockey also included in the sport programme.
Meanwhile, people of the area, national and international
tourists are taking keen interest in Gems-Expo, trade fair.
