Deliberations on 'Engineering Vision' held
LAHORE : Out of the total 11 sectors identified for
deliberations to devise 'Engineering Vision' by the Small and
Medium Enterprise Development Authority (Smeda), a meeting
regarding the Automotive and Agricultural machinery sector was
held at the premises of Thal Engineering Korangi Industrial
Area, Karachi.
According to a Smeda spokesman, the convenor for this
committee, Sohail P. Ahmed, MD Thal Engineering, chaired the
meeting which was attended by the other industry specialists
from Indus Motors, Honda Atlas, Pak Suzuki, Hinopak, Al-Ghazi
Tractors and Yamaha Dawood.
The participants monitored the ongoing progress of the data
gathering process from the industry and observed that it
should be accelerated. It was also decided that a person each
from the areas of marketing, finance and technical be
appointed to do basic market research for this sector.
That will include both the manufacturing as well as the vendor
side. It was agreed to work further to fine tune this
selection vis-…-vis the availability of corresponding data for
the local industry. The data will help in identifying gaps and
irritants plaguing this industry. All the participants were
assigned responsibilities regarding collection of various
inputs to be used in the value chain analysis for the sector.
The next meeting to be held on November 14 will review the
objectives short-listed in this meeting and proposals will be
given to address the issues identified as a result of the data
being gathered.
