Bahria foundation to develop
shrimp farm on 2,000 acres
KARACHI- Bahria Foundation will develop the first aquaculture
and shrimp farm over 2,000 acres of land in taluka
Ghorra Bari, Thatta to boost exports of shrimps.
Lever Brothers Pakistan Ltd has provided this land to the
Foundation. In this regard an agreement has been signed
Saturday between Lever Brothers Pakistan Ltd (LBPL) and Bahria
Foundation (BF) to hand over the land for shrimp farming.
Managing Director BF, Admiral Mahmood Ali and technical
director LBPL, Pervaiz Hasan Khan inked the agreement on
behalf of their respective organisations at Bahria head
office.
Sindh Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, Hasan Ali Chaniho
who witnessed the signing ceremony, said that the production
of shrimps can be increased manifold through shrimp farming in
the country.
He said that Pakistani white shrimps are in demand around the
world and we can earn a substantial amount of foreign exchange
by their exports.
The Minister pointed out that shrimp production has declined
this year due to fresh water shortage in the country and now
there is a great need that Pakistan must switch to shrimp
farming on scientific basis.
He called for the production of good quality shrimps through
shrimp farming and added this will create new job
opportunities for local fishermen and retired Navy personnel.
The Minister also lauded the active role of Bahria Foundation
in the fields of education, health and social welfare and
hoped that the Foundation will also play an important role in
the development of shrimp farming.
Speaking on the occasion of BF chief Admiral Mahmood Ali
highlighted the role of his organisation in various fields and
said that development of shrimp farming will get equal
attention.
