Minister Dr. Khalid RanJha has said that Rs. 700 million have
been earmarked by the Punjab Govrnment for the improvement of
agriculture sector in the Annual Development programme .
This was started by him while talking to a delegation of
progressive agriculturists here July 22. The minister said
that a comprehensive strategy has been chalked out to
implement 18 new projects of agriculture research,
agricultural economy, education and water management.
He said that an amount of Rs. 460 million would be spent on
the installation of 537 new tube wells and improvement of 1014
water channels. The minister said that Rs. 219 million would
be utilized on different projects of agri research and
agricultural extension programme while an arid research
laboratory will also be established at Arid agricultural
University Rawalpindi.
He informed the delegation that a project has been chalked out
to increase agri exports with a view to enable the
agriculturalists to get access to global markets and earn
revenue by exporting their products . The minister asked the
peasants to turn their attention towards agri marketing and
instead of relying on middle men sell their products at
markets them selves. middlemen. The delegation presented
different proposals for the improvement of agriculture sector.July26
