Chinese delegation visits PARC

ISLAMABAD-A 3-member Chinese delegation from Yuan Longping High Tech Co.,
visited Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) on August 16 and expressed desire to collaborate in projects for boosting agricultural production.

The Company's Chairman Tian Jirong in a meeting with PARC Chairman Dr. Umar Khan Baloch discuss the developments made in the collaborative projects of tea and rice. The two sides discussed areas for future collaboration that included edible oil crops, exchange of scientific information, post harvest processing and marketing of foods and vegetables and on-job training of scientists in various fields of science and technology. Chairman PARC on the occasion said Pakistan is keenly interested in further strengthening collaboration with China for the development of hybrid rice and commercial scale production of vegetable seeds.

 He appreciated the concerns of the delegates regarding the developing countries and urged the need to improve capacities and technical competence to be competitive in the world. The delegation evinced keen interest in the developing projects being undertaken at National Agriculture Research Council.

A senior member of the Chinese delegation stated that in China the condition of the farmer was improving. He expressed desire for collaboration with Pakistan to improve conditions of the farming community. The delegation also visited the Plant Genetic Resources Institute and appreciated the efforts of NARC scientists aimed at preservation of various plant species and local bio-diversity.

At the Crop Sciences Institute, the delegation was briefed about the achievements in crop sciences and the impact of modern technologies in achieving food self sufficiency. The First Secretary of the Chinese Embassy also accompanied the delegation. Senior members of PARC, D.G NARC and Senior Directors of NARC attended the meeting.
