billion for agri-sector etc under 3 year plan
ISLAMABAD-The government will spend over Rs 304 billion on
agriculture, transport, energy, IT, science and technology,
water resource management and social sectors under three years
perspective plan.
A Three year plan (2001-2004) has been carved out which
envisages total outlay of Rs 1979 billion, Planning Commission
sources said here today. The objective of the plan is to
accelerate GDP growth, reduce unemployment and alleviate
poverty. This programme is aimed at improving income against
expenditure to contain domestic borrowing.
Under the programme during 2001-04, Rs 86.10 billion will be
spent on water related projects. For transport and
communications Rs.81.22 billion, National Highway Authority -
Rs. 50.85 billion and Railways will receive allocation of Rs.
23.37 billion in three years.
Similarly in power sector during 2001-04, Rs.47.20 billion
have been earmarked. For WAPDA including village
electrification Rs.42.74 billion have been set aside for the
same period.
Rs 11.55 billion will be spent on fuels, while in sector of
Health and Nutrition, Rs.12.92 billion have been earmarked.
Rural development will have an allocation of Rs.4.75 b,
Information Technology - Rs. 13.00 b, Science & Technology -
Rs. 10.01 b, Population Welfare - Rs.8.58 b), Education and
Training - Rs.8.51 b, Agriculture - Rs.5.70 b, Physical
Planning and Housing-Rs.5.95 b, Planning, statistics and
research - Rs. 3.64 b, Industry - Rs.1.44 b, Environment -
Rs.1.22 b, Mass Media - 0.80 b, Social Welfare - Rs.0.52 b,
Culture, Sports, Tourism & Youth - Rs.0.46 b, Manpower and
Employment (Rs.0.43 b) and for Women Development Rs.0.27
billion have been earmarked for the three year period.
For special areas during 2001-04, Rs 15.87 billion have been
indicated while under special programmes (Afghan refugee
programme) Rs.0.61 billion have been allocated.
Provinces will have an allocation of Rs 139.29 billion while
for provincial ADPs (self financed) Rs.95.00 billion have been
earmarked.
