Rs 419.4 m Sindh govt allocation to boost agri sector
HYDERABAD-The Sindh government has allocated Rs 419.4
million in current financial year for completion of annual
development schemes in agriculture, fisheries and livestock
sectors. This amount is far higher than prevous year's
allocation of Rs 83.4 million, which shows the present
Sindh government's keen interest for the development of this
sector in the Province. This was stated on Saturday by Sindh
Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forest, Hassan Ali Chanhio
while presiding over a meeting here at the Directorate General
of Sindh Agriculture Extension.The meeting was convened to
review the schemes to be completed under Annual Development
Programme 2001-2002 in different parts of the province.
The Minister said the present government has focused its
attention towards the promotion of agriculture sector in to
overcome the economic constraints.He said the government has
allocated Rs 25 million for the establishment of proposed
Agriculture Export Processing Zone in Karachi for export of
fruits, vegetables and flowers. After completion of the
project, the country would be able earn sufficient foreign
exchange through export of agriculture produces, he said.
Sindh Secretary for Agriculture, Abdul Rasheed Memon informed
the meeting that the provincial government has allocated its
share of Rs 200 million for On-Farm Water Management Programme
Phase-IV
which will be completed with the financial assistance of the
World Bank
.
Besides, he said the government had also earmarked Rs 83
million for other five development projects which will also be
completed in collaboration with World Bank.
The government has also allocated Rs 8.1 million for
establishment of a Vaccine Production Unit for animals
at Tando Jam, he said and added earlier the vaccines were
being purchased from the Punjab province.
The meeting was informed that a total of 23 development
schemes have been prepared for current financial year of
which, 27 schemes will be completed in agriculture sector, six
in livestock and four schemes in fisheries sector.The Minister
expressed his dissatisfaction over the pace of work on these
schemes and directed the officers concerned to gear up their
efforts so that these development schemes could be completed
well in time.
The meeting was informed that an amount of Rs 12.5 million has
been earmarked for purchase of machinery for establishment of
a latest slaughter house in Hyderabad.
It was informed that the government had also allocated Rs 10.6
million for establishment of carp fish hatchery in Larkana and
Rs 8 million for research on production of brackish
water fish. Rs 25 million have been earmarked for
Agriculture Export Processing Zone and Rs 5 million have been
allocated for Zero Tillage Technology and Seed Graders. An
amount of Rs 3 million has also been allocated under Annual
Development Programme for research and prevention of foot and
mouth disease prevailing in different parts of the world among
animals, the meeting was informed.
The meeting was attended among others by Director General
Agriculture Research, Ghulam Rasool Ahpan, Director General
Agriulture Extension, Rao Abdul Jabbar Khan, Director General
Agriculture Research, Karam Khan Kaleri and Managng Director,
Sindh Seed Corporation, Safdar Ali Agha. |
