Iraq to import more wheat from
Pakistan

(EPB), Tariq
Ikram, on August 16, 2001 signed the Agreed Minutes of the
meeting with Iraqi Trade
Minister Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Saleh, at the conclusion of his 5-
day visit to Iraq.
Since Pakistani wheat specifications meet the Iraqi
requirements, Iraq has expressed its willingness to import
more wheat from Pakistan in order to enhance trade volume.
Addressing the signing ceremony the two sides expressed
satisfaction over the
development of bilateral relations in all areas especially
trade and commerce.
The Iraqi Minister termed the visit as a new step to
strengthen relationship and confirmed Iraq's willingness to
cooperate with Pakistan in order to maximise bilateral ties.
Tariq Ikram said the foundation of bilateral relations go back
to religious and cultural bonds of love and affection. He
termed the visit as a start of a new chapter between the two
countries in the economic and trade fields. He expressed
satisfaction over the pace of development of relations in
various fields like agriculture, education, civilisation etc.
It may be mentioned that bilateral trade has witnessed a
quantum leap in a period of about one and a half years,
increasing volume of trade from US dollar 5 million to more
than US dollar 60 million.
The Chairman EPB also held a meeting with Minister of Health
Dr. Omer Midhat Mubarak and Minister of Transport and
Communications Dr. Ahmed Murtadha Ahmed Khalil . He discussed
with the Iraqi Health Minister ways and means to boost
cooperation in the field of health. It may be mentioned here
that Pakistan held a medical exhibition during the month of
February in which 30 companies participated. A team of 10
doctors also visited Iraq on the occasion and conducted wet
clinics. Tariq Ikram had led the medical delegation, which
created tremendous awareness among the Iraqi medical circles
about the potentials of Pakistan's medical field. During his
meeting with the Minister of Transport and Communications the
EPB Chairman discussed cooperation in the field of shipyard
development. The Chairman EPB was accompanied by General
Manager from Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KSEW).
